The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that starting January 1, 2012, they will require physicians, non-physician practitioners, and Independent Diagnostic Testing Facilities (IDTF) submitting claims to Medicare contractors (carriers and A/B Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC)), to be accredited for certain advanced diagnostic imaging procedures in order to be reimbursed. Only suppliers who furnish the technical component of the imaging services are affected, not suppliers who furnish the professional interpretation component, and the requirement only applies to those who are paid under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.
